Any thoughts on the Rebel XT digital, 8MP, compared to say the Canon EOS 10D
that I already own? (6.2MP) I would love to increase tonal pickup,
resolution, wondering if it would really be worth the upgrade.

The XT is a bit small and light compared to your 10D. I'd handle one before
making a decision. It also uses a different battery.

The marginal increase in resolution does not justify an upgrade, in my
opinion.

I would think the color accuracy is about the same.

I have both. The reason I only use the 10D as a backup is that the XT
is faster, starts up right away, and it feels more responsive. It has a
later version of the Digic processor.

I can not comment on increase in tonal pickup,

But 8 MP is only about 30 percent more than 6 Mp. (Area)
But is is only about 15 percent more in linear size. So the
theoritical resolution is 15 percent more.
15 percent more is not a lot. (And very often not visible in pictures).
(So choosing between camera's 15 % is an advantage, for upgrading
15 % is not a lot).

DPReview gave these numbers for 'resolution'.

Horiz LPH 1850
Vert LPH 1650

10D
Horiz LPH 1600

I have the 10D. I, like Brian Baird, am waiting for a newer model. I
will hold out longer, though. My next new digital SLR will be whatever
replaces the replacement for the 20D.
