Post subject: Balance shaft timing on Galant 2.0 SOC engine
Archived from groups: alt>autos>mitsubishi (more info?)

I have seen numerous posts about the balance shaft timing issues on
this Mitsubishi 2.0 engine. I have tried twice now to get the timing
right without using the screwdriver (8 mm rod) to check the shaft
position, and I still have a vibration in the engine. The problem is
that I can't find the plug/hole that is used to verify the shaft
position. I have been using the alternate method of seeing which way
the shaft turns. This time I need to know for certain. This job is not
that much fun!

If anyone could sent me some photos or a good description of where to
look I would really appreciate it. What type of bolt head? size? Can it
be accessed from the top or under the engine? Also, I'm assuming that
the oil pump timing gear is the gear toward the front side of the car
(left side facing front of engine) and is driven with the "B" timing
belt. It's my understanding that BOTH the left and right hand shafts
need to have the positions verified. Is that true?

Thanks in advance for your help. I have the front cover and belts off
again waiting for information.

Don

Sorry, this is a 2.4L engine, not a 2.0L engine.
