BMW E46 Fault code!! Rotation Rate sensor

Hey everybody new to the forum but hope you can help me!!

i have a 325 e46 convertible, 2002 model.

i work away on ships and left the car standing for 2 and half months, when i got home and started it the DSC lights on the dash sayed on which mans ive got no traction control.

i put it on a friends diagnostic machine where he works and his is what i got
5E38 rotation rate sensor

i phoned bmw to order a new sensor but they said it could be a number of things and that i would have to put it on their diagnostic machine to find exactly what i needed!

has anyone had this fault up before or does anyone know what part i need???

any help would be very much appreciated
