Aztek key stuck out of the ignition

I know its a switch but I have a 2003 Aztek that will not let the key
into the ignition. My wife pulled up and pulled the key out before she
put it in park. Once she realized the doors did not automatically unlock
she went to put it in park the doors still did not unlock so she used
the button. When she got back in the key would not go in the ignition. I
tried to reset the system by unplugging the battery but no luck. Any
suggestions
