Post subject: Audi A4 Dashboard Desteam Blowers

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with my Audi A4 2002. When it rains (which it does a lot in good auld Scotland) my windows naturally steam up. I attempt to desteam them using my demister setting on the air con controls however I am not getting any air blowing from any of the dashboard vents (even when I just select the up arrow for window blowers nothing comes out).

I do have an ECON button that will not turn off but I am not convinced that it is the culprit.

What should I do? I cant desteam the damned windows without taking my hands to it in order to wipe them!

Any suggestions or advice in this matter would be fantastic!

Adam

Your AC is probably not operating and needs to be checked. Ac runs when
desteam is being used to dry the air. You may also have a faulty flap
control in the air box.

If the ECON is lit, that indicates the AC compressor is not enabled. If the
ECON is lit even when you select the "demist" mode, that is a fault, as the
"demist" mode enables the AC compressor, opens the fresh-air intake, and
directs all cabin air-flow through the top and upper-corner dash vents (which
are above the steerable dash vents; and if the demist mode is working
properly, there won't be any air blowing out the steerable dash vents).

I'd pursue the ECON indicator first.

i had the same problem on my 2003.if you remove the glovebox, three
screwsalong the top edge.and two underneath, next to each hinge.on the
left sideof the dash ,which faces the door, is a plate, held on with
three clips, which you can prise off. then you can lower the
glovebox.visible on the exposed side of the heater ,are three motors, the
centre one operates the flap to the windscreen .maybe i'm lucky ,but i
wiggled the electrical plug, and it started working again.it's a cheap
option, maybe you have the same problem.

The Econ button lights when the compressor is not being switched on.
This can either be a problem with the compressor circuit (low
refrigerant perhaps, or perhaps the interior fan is not working. It may
be that the fuse in the AC circuit is blown. Check the fuses and let me
know what you find, also check if you use a defrost setting if you can
hear the AC compressor switch on under the hood.

The problem could be one of the engine coolant temperature sensors, or
the A/C clutch relay is not fucntional, there is obviously an interlock
which is stopping the AC compressor from being switched on. Check the
AC relay and see if it is getting the required inputs. Most of the
relays are located under the dash, you can get to them by removing the
lower dash panel. Let me know what you find

HI and thanks.
I contacted an audi dealer and had them send me the instructions to
unlock the radio- the interesting part was that one has to wait one hour
with the key in the ignition and the radio on- after one hour the radio
light shuts off and then you can proceed with the unlocking procedure-
that worked! If one does not wait the hour then the unlocking prodedure
will not work- perhaps this will help someone else.
the good new is I do not have to buy an aftermarket unit.
thanks for your help-much appreciated.
Phil

congrats!!!
I thought you only needed to do that "unlocking" procedure when you have
entered that radio code incorrectly too many times which locks your radio.
