Post subject: Audi 2.0L Emmisions failure, MOT Test.

Hi, dont know if anyone can help, our 1994 , 2.0Litre Audi Estate recently failed the CO2 emmisions part of the MOT test (the only thing it failed on!) The mechanic in the garage suspected it may be running too rich, the engine is running slightly lumpily.
Engine appears healthy, not burning oil etc. Connected a diagnostic reader which displayed Code 0214, the code manual states 'supply voltage' - supply voltage to what? My local trusted mechanic thinks changing the oxygen sensor may rectify but his code reader for later Audis/vws came up with 'no data' He was baffled and due to the age of the car and his concern that we could end up throwing a lot of money at it, suggested we just scrap it.
I am reluctant to do this as the car is in really good condition and is ideal for our purpose, we love the estate package, its comfort and practicality.
I am a good diy mechanic but I confess that I am totally baffled by all thins ECU and fuel injection etc!
Any help appreciated!

Find someone who has VAG-COM. Try here:

and get them to scan the car- it might cost you a beer or two. It could
be the 02 sensor, yes, but it might not be.

He said scrap out that car...............Uhhh take it to another mechanic!!!

Could be a wiring issue to the Throttle Body Switches or elsewhere. There
might be 2 switches on your throttle body, one for Wide Open Throttle (WOT)
and one to sense when the throttle is closed. I would strongly suspect the
wiring to those switches but emission test results might indicate something
else. Wink

Could be a Coolant Temperature Sensor.
It is probably something very simple and not expensive!

A good book along with a digital Volt Ohm Meter can do wonders! Wink
You might want to post the emission results which may help point you in the
direction of where to look for the problem.

Like Chris said, find someone with the vag-com tool and see if they will
help you.
You can contact people that are close to you on one of these two other
lists.
