I have always been a fan of Angelle S. Was fortunate enough to see her
win her first race. Even with hearing some of the tabloid news stories
about her personal life. But her actions last Sun during the finals were
really low class. First we see her hugging Chip Ellis. Who calls her
"his buddy". Then in the semis when Chip needs help Angelle stalls her
bike. When was the last time any rider stalled there bike? Let alone a
multi-time champion. I'd be surprised if any owner or sponsor offers her
anything for next season.

I noticed that display of high school politics too. But, her
apparent strong dislike for Andrew Hines seems to be shared among
many of the PSM riders. It made me think Hines may have a
privileged, spoiled, rich kid personality. I don't see that with
Lucas, Bernstein, Ashley F, or even Schumacher but I can see where
that may be the case with Andrew.

Schumacher doesn't appear a little snotty in his interviews?

Lucas, Bernstein, and especially Schumacher always came across to me as
spoiled rich kids.
At Schumacher Electric Tony was tagged as the "Owner's Playboy Kid" well
before dad gave him his top fuel ride.

I guess it must be fulfilling to have things handed to you and not have to
use your own fortitude.

Now at the other end of the spectrum take Larry Dixon Jr., that's substance.
Starts by laboring under Larry Minor, then for years under Prudhomme. The
Dixon cell phone story is classic testament to the depth of his character.

Oh well...

What's the Dixon cell phone story? He has been my favorite driver since I
first saw him in Gainsville.

One of his jobs when he started for Prudhomme was chasing down parts. He
found searching for pay phones to be extremely time consuming and cost money
anyway, digging for dimes/quarters. So, on his own dime he bought a cell
phone package that cost several hundred dollars a month. Pure commitment to
the team as hired labor, made him very effective and obviously his
initiative has paid off well. He now owns and leases building space in
Brownsburg in the same area as JFR and DSR. Just examples...

What have those other kids done on their own?

With their polished TV personas, it's difficult for me to point to
any of them and say "there's a brat". However, Lucas not helping
Melanie into the countdown was rather rude, arrogant. And, like
many, I'm also sick of seeing Tony win. Bernstein seems to be the
most down to earth.

After LaHaie and Miller leaving, he does have a refreshing air of
humble about him. He's probably my favorite right now.

A few years ago at Indy on a washout Friday I witnessed a little kid
standing outside the pit with his father and a Bernstein poster. No one
else was around and a crew member came up to the boy and asked if he wanted
Brandon's autograph. The kid said yes and the crew member walked the poster
over to him. Brandon signed it but didn't even look up and acknowledge the
kid. I lost some respect for Brandon at that point. Perhaps I'm being
harsh, but I really think he could have made the kid's weekend by waving hi
or shaking his hand.

Yup, dad Kenny has always been the same through the years, autographs are
for reserved times, during grandstanding, or for publicity. That's one of
the directions I just don't like these days.

Larry Dixon is down to earth just as is Larry Sr. If you ever get the
chance, talk with L.Senior, the man's friendly and an absolute stitch.

Both of these cases are proof that an apple doesn't fall too far from the
tree.

Hi Guys.

I don't want to sound like I am throwing a cat in amongst the pigeons,
However I can see the possibility of some double standards creeping in here.

I know a lot of you have expressed your disapproval of "team orders" and I
also agree with you.
I am also not a big fan of Morgan Lucas, however both team cars went out and
raced, and he won.

I personally thought that was a great display of sportsmanship, even though
it meant that Melanie Troxel was knocked out of the championship because of
it.

I was VERY surprised that Morgan Lucas didn't "Smoke the tyres" during that
run as I was certainly expecting him too.

I am the first to admit that I have no idea about what politics has been
going on in that teams camp but as an outsider looking in, I thought the
result was a good one for the credibility of drag racing.

Just my 20 cents worth. NOW, I have my crash helmet firmly in place so flame
away!!!!!

You know, I had a very similar incident happen to my son when he was about 9
or 10. In fact two opposing incidents happened at the same race meeting on
the same day.

The race meet was The Australian Touring Cars.

My son walked up to one of the best known drivers and asked for an
autograph. He was promptly told by the driver to "get lost kid. NO
Autographs".

Later that afternoon we were standing in the pits watching another of the
top drivers preparing for his next race. This driver was also one of my sons
favourites. The driver, Dick Johnson, was very busy getting himself ready.
One of the promotional woman from the team came over and said hello to my
son and, after he explained that this driver was one of his favourites, the
promo woman invited my son into the pits to meet the driver. He didn't have
to be asked twice!!!

The woman took him over, introduced him to Dick Johnson and Dick Johnson
actually stopped what he was doing, bent down and had a conversation with my
son for about 4 or 5 minutes. It made my sons day and he still talks about
it to this day. He is now 21.

He also still talks about the other driver too, but certainly not in the
same light!!

It just goes to show what a huge difference 4 or 5 minutes, or even just a
smile or a nod, can do.

Some drivers understand that very well, but others never will.

Supposedly Morgan offered to take a dive and Troxel said if she couldn't win
this round, she didn't deserve to be in the countdown. I can't fault Morgan
for racing all out after that.

Troxel actually made those comments during an ESPN interview and my
immediate thoughts were "yeah right!!" but when Morgan Lucas went out and
won the race I thought "Wow. They did mean it after all!".

It gave me a lot more respect for the entire team.
