Post subject: Alternator Belt

I don't know a whole lot about cars. I have a 96 Passport. To make a long story short, I was checking the coolant in the car and noticed that my alternator belt was shredded after I had just gotten a new alternator put in ( I know sounds fishy), anyway I have to take it to the shop. Is it possible to drive the car down the street to the shop?
