Yes, you need a front plate in WA, but not necessarily the correct
one..........
One little variation... I have three cars licensed in WA requiring only a
rear plate, under the classification of "restored classic." They need not
be restored, but must be at least 30 years old, and are not supposed to be
daily drivers. You come up with your own plate, which must match the
birthyear of you car. Depending on the plate issue year, you may also need
to find the correct year tab. For instance, a 63 Buick with a WASH 63
plate, no tab. My 62 Dodge has a green '58 plate with a '62 tab. This, for
a one-time charge of about $75. License is good for life.
On a humorous note, when they decided we need to replace our plates every so
often (under the guise of: "They wear out and you can't read them" - the
truth: yet another shameless way to collect revenue.... Total and utter
BS), my '63 Wildcat had it's original plates, in pristine condition. When I
was forced to install new plates, I only installed one on the back. I drove
it for years with the new plate on the back and the original plate on the
front. Kept the other new plate under the seat, JIC I ever got stopped...
didn't. That's how much attention they pay to the front plate.
