I am approaching the 105,000 mile mark on my RL, can someone give me a ballpark estimate on # of shop hours and part cost to replace the timing belt? Also, should the water pump be replaced at the same time? thanks!
« Three hours labor, $300 for parts, so a total ballpark bill of about $600 for a dealer job. Plus tax. You may get a lower labor rate from an independent. It is an excellent id.. »
« "Tegger": Since it is an Acura, I'll bet the price is double that. »
« "tww1491": No, should be roughly what I stated. Acura dealer shop rates are the same as anybody else (~$100/hr). -- Tegger The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ »
« If there are no Acura dealerships local to me taking it to a Hinda dealer should be the same correct? »

I am surprised by the Timing belt business, all Honda cars, including Acura, need timing belt replacement near 80,000 miles, I am wondering why the ^%$# manufacturers don't want to make the belt with better material that lasts for life time of the car. Another puzzle bothers me is that in my young..
« What's your question? 'Curly' »
« Why can not fabricate the timing belt with better material that lasts for life time of the car? »
« The belts are made with high quality rubber and Kevlar. What material do you think would work better? »
« Gordon McGrew: How about numerous short metal pieces, joined together with flexible links? You could even make the metal pieces with an opening in them, so that a toothed metal wheel of some sort .. »

My manual says to change the timing belt at 60,000 on my 2003TL...I'm at a little over 60,000 and my car still runs and looks brand new...Has anyone else waited to change theirs or should I do it now?
« "apdicenzo": Where do you live? Your regularly scheduled replacement is at 105K miles or 84 months. The 60K is for extreme temperature conditions. -- Tegger The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ http://www.tegg.. »
« apdicenzo: Hmmm, our 2003 Accord V-6 with a similar engine calls for timing belt change at 105k miles. Are you looking at the extreme services interval instead of normal service? »
« I live in Rhode Island...maybe I did look at the extreme instead of normal service...Thanks allot "John Horner": »

The owner's contains the following text regarding the timing belt: The timing belt should normally be replaced at the intervals shown in the maintenance schedule. (That's 100,000 miles or 168,000 km) Replace this belt at 60,000 miles (U.S.) or 100,000 km (Canada) if you regularly drive your car in..
« "Venture Rider": Where are you and what is your mileage? Did you mean minus 29°C? I think there is also an age consideration - can anyone confirm or dispute? MZ »
« "MZ" said: You're right, it's -29C. In Quebec, we get maybe 5 days below 30 in the year. And I don't necessarily go out every one of those day. As a matter of fact, I drove less then 5,000km since.. »
« "Gary Ponier": But be aware that if they don't look like new they are seriously overdue for change. It is never safe to go by appearance in deciding whether to change a timing belt on an interfere.. »
« "Michael Pardee": You're absolutely right, but hey, it could be worse, you could be driving something like a Hyundai or Kia where there are even lesser guarantees. » >> Stay informed about: Acura Timing Belt |
