I have an ABS fault light that keeps coming on. 4 diagnostic tests and 7 hours of investigation at a Peugeot garage and they still can't find the problem!!! They wanted me to pay for further investigations!! Picked it up on Friday night and got a flickering sign that said STOP. Have already nearly spent more on it than I paid and its really annoying! I have heard this has happened to quite a few people with Peugeot 307's. Any ideas?
It sounds like the wheels are going to fall off when I break... Sad

If you are getting a noise when braking, any dealer or garage worth its salt
should be able to find that fault.

One would think so but that doesn't seem to be the case! They still keep saying they can't find the fault!

I have the exactly the same problem today the garage said it was my sensor, replaced them then they said it was the hub ,replaced that ,then they put in back and front pads and charged me a whopping 580 pounds and the abs light is still on and they now say they dont know what the problem is and I am now very stressed and angry with still a faulty abs light that stays on and the abs fault also lights up on the comp screen telling you to stop car ,the mechanic had to e-mail puegot because he said that is the only way they could contact them and they are a peugot
registered garage,just ridiculous

How annoying! I so feel for you!! I have had the ABS pump and sensors replaced too. I took it to a friend of a friend at work and he told me there was a strange sensor on the front passenger side. He called Peugeot and they told him its impossible that it had one like that as Peugeot don't use those types of sensors! They said it must be a rogue one! I have been told that maybe its the wheel bearing. I still have the ABS light, and the Stop message...I also had a braking fault! Mine is going back in to a different Peugeot dealer on Wednesday - I'm wondering if I should even bother. I think I am going to email Watchdog maybe they can investigate and find out whats going on. Maybe we'll be lucky and they'll recall them! I hope you haven't taken your car to the garage in Walton...they're useless ;-(
Have you tried calling Peugeot head office? If not don't bother - they are very unhelpful....and haven't replied to any of my mails! I'll let you know what happens on Wednesday....if anything!

I'm having the same problem and it's getting worse.

The ABS mostly comes on at slower speeds, when the breaking is done gently as per normal day-to-day driving.

My car's a January 2002 307 Style 1.6 on a 51 plate, what age is yours ?

Since I've only had it 4 years (it was a year old when I bought it) Trading Standards are saying I can claim it's an inherant fault and under the Sale Of Goods Act 1979 (amended) and request the garage fixes it at their cost. Trouble is that burden of proof is on the purchaser after the first 6 months.

I've just had a bill from the garage for the last time they put the car on their diagnostic machine but, they couldn't tell me any more than I already new (I.e. It's not working). Trading Standards are saying I don't have to pay this bill as the garage hasn't provided a service.

This is very frustrating as I've ordered a new car and the 307 is going in as a trade-in. (Not a Peugeot I might add !)

Just out of interest, have you had any problems with the horn switch in the steering wheel ?

Have read elsewhere that the ABS sensor wiring behind the exhaust heat-shield may be chafed, so I'm going to get someone to check that out.

Let me know if anyone makes any progress and I'll do likewise.

I took it back to peugot today and they are going to check all the wiring now they say if its not that it must be the abs pump or comp

Mine is a 1.6LX 2001. Best of luck hope they get it sorted for you. Wishful thinking but you never know!
My scrap goes in tomorrow morning - I am going to explode if they can't sort it.....

I did try trading standards, but because I bought it privately I wasn't covered under the sale of goods act. Have they checked the wheel bearing on yours? The garage has fixed my wheel bearing and sensor and say that its fine now. Will see what its like when I fetch it. That was another £286 on top of the other money I have already spent! I am hoping enough people will write to Watchdog so that they can look into it. I think all the Peugeot garages are bad, no matter where they are!

I tried trading standards this afternoon and they told me to phone the motor trade assosiation to see if the garage is a member and when I phoned to ask they told me the garage I dealt with were not a member as they dont need to be , but if they had been the trade asosiation could have made them sort the problem as they have not fixed anything and I am out of pocket so I will have to phone the trading standards again on mon, I think it is a disgrace that Peugot themselves act the way they do as they told the garage that the thought it was the E.C.U but they cant garentee it .I mean if it is the ECU that should be garenteed for the life of the car as it is the internal computer part and the car has only done 27000mls. it has been very stressful as I am a driving instructor and that was the car I have been using for tuition but I have just bought a new corsa and the peugot will go to my wife as our second car but with still the light comming on. I Know one thing I will never buy a Puegot ever again as long as I live as I now think Peugot are a disgrace to the motoring trade for the way they treat customers. Regards George
