I'm not sure what you mean by a "tv" cable, but assuming that you mean the
throttle cable for an automatic transmission, it will not have any effect on
a slipping transmission. A slipping transmission is usually caused by worn
friction surfaces, low pressures, bad automatic transmission fluid (ATF),
leaking valves, or weak springs. One of the symptoms of a slipping
transmission is ATF that is black or has a burnt smell.

A mis-adjusted throttle cable will affect how the transmission shifts.

Adjusting the throttle cable is not technically difficult - there is a
specification in the factory service manual, and you probably have to remove
the automatic transmission pan to gain access so plan on changing the ATF
while you are at it and replacing the pan gasket. Make sure you get the
correct type of ATF - it will be marked on the transmission dipstick and in
your owner's manual. You can get online access to factory service manuals
at techinfo.toyota.com for $10/day.

Hey Shawn, I have a 2000 Tacoma 4wd that appears to have the same problem, transmission is slipping. Started small about a month ago, now getting worse. When I take off from a stop, alot of times it takes a few seconds and a little gas to kick the transmission into drive, and I can now feel it slipping at speed also.

Was wondering if you had your problem resolved yet? I am on an island in the carribean and will probably have to try and fix this myself.

Thanks, Walt
