I agree with Peter D.
That strut is, what, 8 inches "north" of the spindle, and at least 5" above
the CV boot? The strut is held in place by two LARGE hardened bolts that
I've never seen come loose, and are probably stonger than a weld at that
point would be.
Either your daughter did a "Dukes of Hazzard" jump over 12 busses, or
someone unbolted that strut and let her drive it around, or they unbolted
that strut and did intentional damage to make a boatload of money.
The whole thing sounds VERRRY suspicious.
