Hello,
I've got a 99 Chevy Silverado with a 4.3 Vortex V6, 84,500 miles. Oil
changed every 3-5k, New fuel filter & pcv about 8k ago.
I've never changed the spark plugs in this vehicle, so I did this the other
day. I removed them & replaced them one at a time, gapping them at .060 with
the same type of plug that came in the truck. After I changed the plugs, the
truck is missing, like one cylinder isn't firing. I took it to AutoZone &
they said #2 was reporting a misfire.
I thought I damaged a plug wire, so I replaced all the plug wires with new
ones, keeping the same order etc.. with no improvement. I then pulled the
plug out of the #2 cylinder and put in the old plug that was in that
location (I labeled them) with same result. I put the new one back. I then
changed the cap & rotor... with the same result. The truck ran fine before I
touched it lol! The check engine light is on... and flashes on and off when
I accelerate.
Any ideas? >> Stay informed about: 99 silverado missing |

Also one other thing that I forgot to mention... it seems like I can hear a
tick tick tick sound on the passenger side of the motor, same side as #2...
seems like its louder on that side than on the other side. only noticeable
when I have the hood up and its idling
Thanks - Keith

You need to run a compression check and see if you have a lifter, lobe, or
valve problem. Check at least #2 and #4...but better to check them all.
