My Fuel gauge has been acting up lately, jumping around(from 1/4 tank to 3/4
tank) while driving down the road. It's tough to know how much fuel I
really have. Does anyone know where the sending unit is located? Is it easy
to change?
Thanks in Advance,

Yup, the entire assembly is in the tank. The good news is that you
have to replace the entire unit, pump and all, which will run you
about 300 bucks. >> Stay informed about: 99 Sierra Fue Gauge |

Oh, yeah.
Not real hard to change.
You'll have to drop the tank or remove (or shift) the bed
To drop the tank, you'll also have to remove the evap canister. If
you have a Haynes or Chiltons the instructions are very well detailed
and easy to follow.
I dropped mine on my 99 Silvy (same truck) replaced it and had it back
up and running in about 2.5 hours. >> Stay informed about: 99 Sierra Fue Gauge |

why not just reset your trip meter when you fuel up... and then fuel
again when you hit 500KM or 300miles or whatever? >> Stay informed about: 99 Sierra Fue Gauge |

I did that for a long time and got very lucky. The problem is that
his pump is going to fail at some time, so if he is having problems
now, fix it and get it over with. >> Stay informed about: 99 Sierra Fue Gauge |

I was resetting my trip meter too, for about 2.5 years or so with no
indication of a problem, then one morning on the way to work, the
truck faultered, then died and would not restart. Care to guess what
the problem was? So on top of my time (luckily I know how to change
one out) the cost of the new pump and the toying fees, my laziness
cost me a day off from work with no pay.
I am not saying that you can't get a few years out of it like this,
but my experience tells me that smart money is to fix it properly now
and say yourself the headaches when you may be broken down on the
interstate some where.. >> Stay informed about: 99 Sierra Fue Gauge |

I've been resetting my odometer for about 3 years. I bought a new fuel pump
cause I just knew it was about to go. The truck now has 197k miles and the
pump hasn't quit yet. Of course, it is about the time of the year for snow
and cold weather, so I'm probably about done with the luck factor. I'll run
it till it drops though. >> Stay informed about: 99 Sierra Fue Gauge |
