Post subject: 99 Jimmy SLE 4 Whl slipping and grinding

When I put my jimmy in 4 hi, and excelerate, I get a grinding and a thumping sound. It does the same thing when I'm in the slippery stuff and the front tires are spinning. I thought I had a CV joint issue, so I changed both front drive axle assemblies, no help. My truck has 130,000 miles on it, but has been very well maintained. Any ideas?
