I have a 98 ranger 4x4 xlt. It has about 100000 miles on it and cannot find anything wrong with it except the 4x4 does not shift in to gear all the time. I realized this problem when me and one of my friends went off road on a trail about 9pm and got stuck and I realized the 4x4 did not work. It would not been as bad if we did not forget to bring a flashlight, and the closest house was about a mile away in the mountains. (cell phone did not work).
