My 98 Grand Marquis is miss- firing. I got a check engine light. I will bring the car in for service tommorow, but I am told that this is an expensive ordeal The spark plug colis fail and they are $60/each The spark plugs have alreay been replaced. nyone else have a similar probelm? The car has 12..
« REPLACE THEM ALL!!! I did mine and it was the best thing I did to the car, it now runs like new. You can try replacing the boots only along with the plugs and see if it helps. (don't forget the lube) »
« Replacing them all sounds like the right idea. I don't want to keep taking time off from work and going to my mechanic to replace these things one at a time. Anyway, may I ask roughly what the repla.. »

« Did they replace the plug wires? Wires can be a major cause of mis-fire on 4.6's from the 90's. I got about 6 yrs/40k mi. on my 4.6 before I had to replace the wires. Cheers, Puddin' »

My alternator light comes on occassionally. I replaced the battery because it was the original. Not bad for a 9 year old battery. The light still comes on intermittently. Anyone know what it could be? Is it the obvious bad alternator or could it be someting else less expensive (wishfull thinking)
« If the alternator is also that old, it's probably on the way out, although it could be corroded/loose connections or worn/loose belt (tensioner). Don't trust the idiot light; get a cigar lighter p.. »

Not sure why, but I notice a lot of vibration in the front passesnger side and pulsation when I brake. The rotors have never been turned or replaced, 110,000 miles. If I replace them, will that take care of the problem?
« yes »
« your abs is mal fuctioning. the little eye that reads the rotor speed is either dirty or needs to be replaced. changing the rotor won't help in this situation »
« If the problem started as slight vibe and steadily gets worse, rotors! DO NOT TURN them... not worth the hassle. Change the pads while you are at it... even if plenty meat left. DO NOT buy cheap .. »
« This car doesn't have ABS. Not sure why, but it was the 98 Grand Marquis GS and didn't come with it. »

My 98 Grand Marquis makes a rattleing noise when the engine runs. It would seem that there is something loose inside the muffler. Anyone know what it could be? It is not a rattle due to going over bumps. It ocurs due to pressure in the exhaust system.
« Some of the problems.... Most common is a rusted heatshield or band clamp... the only way is to look and listen..... Also possible.... broken catalyst monolith orruted baffle in the muffler.... ag.. »
« The broken catalyst monlith is a god bet becase I get a check engine lijght that indicates insuficient catalyst. »

This car is giving me a lot of trouble. Stalls at idle speeds, stalls when I take my foot off the gas on the highway. I am getting it fixed Friday. Can't do it till then because I can't get the time off to do it. This is getting to be the most dangerous vehicle that I have ever owned. Suspension p..

My 98 Grand Marquis is surging at highway speeds. Seems as though this is a common problem with this car. My brpother has 99 CV and he had to replace spark plug coils.
