I had this issue with my '94 Suburban K1500 and the cruise module was flaky.
It's an electromechanical part that reels in and retracts a small belt and
the gears and rollers eventually wear out on some. On others it's the
electronic part of the module. The nylon gears wore out and broke on mine.
Wouldn't hold speed. On a '98 it's not a cheap part new, and from a jobber
it's $390. I'd suggest a wrecker.At least that what I did. It's an easy
replacement to do yourself and cost $100.
