I RTFM and thats what it says... I've always checked ATF with the engine running? I bought this 98 Accord coupe EX V6 105,000 miles about a year ago. Is this a honda thing or something new. I want to check the manual on my Avalon when I get home tonight. Trannys feeling a little funny and we are c..
« Dunno about the 98, but yea, most honda automatics you check with the engine off. You unscrew the cap, and then let it fall into place so its sitting flush. Don't check it with it screwed all the wa.. »
« and? it's a honda thing. do what it says in the fine manual. change it yourself. just drain and refill - factory procedure. »
« A Honda thing. Honda does things their own way. That's why we buy them, no? They're not quite Citroen, but sorta close... Make sure the car is FULLY warm, and make sure the motor is off no more th.. »

98 Accord coupe EX V6 105,000 miles. New to me car and I just changed the tranny fluid last night. I was suprised by how much metal was stuck to the magnet on the end of the drain plug. Mostly very small particals but I did see a couple of very thin shavings that were 3/8" long. Is this normal? ..
« Not knowing the maintenance history, it could be normal. The fine shavings are a normal part of almost any tranny, while the larger pieces are not terribly unusual for a new one. It's something to.. »

« 2-3 quarts drained by pulling the plug is normal. The Honda full change out procedure is to to three or four cycles of drain, fill, drive 5 minutes, repeat. I don't think ramps or no ramps will y.. »
« =================================== Sounds about right. If you give it a week between changes you'll see that the magnet will collect almost zero by the third time. First change (which is what you.. »

98 Accord coupe V6 110,000 miles I posted earlier about a P0420 code and another post about the transmission shifting abruptly. I dropped the car off at my mechanic. He says the Cat needs replacing. ( fore and aft O2 sensors read the same indicating a bad cat..) He thinks what I'm feeling in the t..
« The Cat failure has nothing to do with the transmission shifting. Have you had the transmission oil changed? It is critical on Honda transmissions. It is also critical to use Honda transmission fl.. »

« no. a bad sensor can contribute, but not the catalyst. it would be better news if you found a competent mechanic. »
« Yes I've replaced the tranny fluid 3 times over the winter. (I know one change doesnt get all the fluid out.) Using Hondas ATF fluid. Again I may not be accuratly repeating what the mechanic said. .. »

THis car bought new began getting only 10-12 mpg about six months ago. Dealer did major tune up. No improvement. Dealer hooked up computer which shows perfect air fuel mixture. Sent the readout to Honda engineers in California who had no suggestion. No evidence of leaks, does not smoke, runs witho..

« Hi, If in warm up mode, idle rpm will be higher than normal. »
