I have a 1997 Outback with overheating problems.
My mechanic found residue of gas inside the coolant overflow reservior.
He said this is due to a head gasket problem.
Could their be other problems with the engine. Confused

Could be, but if you keep overheating it you WILL have more problems.Get

Ain't worth it on a 97.

I just got quotes of $1400-$1900 to repair that.

That's over half the value of the car-- if the car is absolutely perfect in every way with not a nick on it.
