I have the 1997 ford escort with the split port induction 2000 engine. The A/C clutch engages and disengages while A/C is on in a 3 or 4 second cycle. It's been doing this for several years and makes the car feel like it's surging. I changed the CCRM last year thinking that would fix the problem..
« Sorry I can't help with your problem; it might be better to post it to a more appropriate NG as this one deals exclusively with the Focus. Chris -- Please remove prejudice to reply. »
« Is your system fully serviced? If you are low on refridgerant it will cause the surging. also the pressure sensor might be failing. »
« I would definately say you have a low charge level, or the HP switch is faulty. Tim. .. »

I have a 97 ford escort sedan. I was driving it today when it lost the ability to accelerate quickly. I was nearly home so I continued on. The car did not over heat and there is adequate oil. When I parked the car I opened the hood and a small amount of smoke was coming from the inside. Not a good..

Hi all, I have a 97 Ford Escort wagon coming my way, I believe it has 14" wheels. Will they fit my 13" wheeled 87 Golf GL? I know the GTI's had 14" teardrop wheels but will the ford wheels fit? the offset work? Will my speedo be off? Thanks Keith
« If they have a 4x100 bolt pattern and proper wheel hub center, yes. But I don't know what the specs are on Escorts. Speedo being off is not a function of the wheels. It's the tires you put on th.. »
« Try to keep the same diameter as you increase the wheel size. If you have 175/70/13 tires on the car now and you move up to a 14" wheel, you would use a 185/60/14 to get approximately the same heig.. »
« And also check the size of the inner hub opening. VWs are hubcentric wheels...the wheel needs to sit firmly on the hub first to be centered. The bolts are *not* what centers the wheel. if the h.. »
« Yup the latter is only 0.4% larger than the former. Use this: Plug in numbers into there and there ya go...can compare various sizes side by side. »

I recently replaced OEM brakes with Performance Friction brake pads. I left the pad guides out because they just did not seem to fit with the new pads. Everything works well, the M + W clips are in securely, and the car stops fine without any noises or vibrations. Is it OK to run the car like this? ..
« Do you mean caliper pins? Or shims? You call the M & W springs "clips", so I'm not sure what you mean by "guides". You may get away w/o shims, except for some noise & corrosion, but not w/o much e.. »
« The guides are 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch plates that go on the tips of the back plate for the calaper.one on the top tip and one on the bottom tip. »
« Ahhh, they may start rattlin', then, or clunkin' when changing direction, but it sounds like they're tight now. Rob »
« Thanks. »
