96 Neon clicking noise at the dash

This is a repost with changed details. There is a clicking noise under the dash on the drivers side. It's intermittent and random. It sounds like a relay. In my original post I thought it had something to do with the battery temperature sensor because my stepson broke that while trying to repair the gear selector cable. But I just found out that the clicking noise is there even with the car off. I just bought the car and the dome light doesn't work so I suspect the door switches are at fault here. Could this be something else? The clicking is driving me nuts but there is no performance issues that I could tell.
