In the past few days, the AC at high started making a loud noise (think
loud hmmm) and then today the engine started running rough as if timing
was off. The vehicle will stall at idle if A/C is off or low but keeps
running, though rough, when A/C is on high. I replaced timing belt at 60k
and 120k miles as required, vehicle has 147k miles now. Belts look good,
distributor cap and wires are good (replaced about 40k miles ago). Any
ideas as to what is up?

While this probably will not fix your problem, at 40k, those spark plugs (if
they are standard plugs) should have been checked and regapped ages ago...

Then again, I'm not sure what the standard recommended replacement period
is for spark plugs, but I replace mine about every 20k. I replace my plug
wires every third spark plug replacement (about 60k.)
