I have a '95 Maxima that is getting more temperimental when it comes
to the key engaging the ignition. It seems that I have to really force
the key forward in order hit the spot when the car will start.

Is there an adjustment to the linkage or is it just a case of needing
to replace the whole switch?

Any help with this irritating problem will save my sanity.

Thanks,
Rick

As David already suggested, it is likely a bad ignition switch. If you
are handy, this is soemthing you can do yourself in under 30 mins. The
part runs ~$30 from your local Nissan dealer and to replace it, just
remove the plastic shrouds around the steering columns, there are 2
philips screws holding the old switch in place. Unscrew, unplug, swap
in new switch and you are done.

Try jiggling the key while you turn it, until you have a chance to have
the ignition switch replaced (which can be done without a key change,
since it is separate from the ignition lock). That was driving me batty
for awhile (I bought one of the 1st 95 SE 5-speeds in May 94, still a
joy to drive).
