This morning AFTER I drove to work my horn decided to start honking. And not stop. I have that alarm that goes off when someone tries opens a door without the drivers door being unlocked, and all you do to stop that is unlock the drivers door. Even then that is like a series of short bursts and flashing lights. This is simply my horn. I have to keep running out and pressing the horn by hand to "unstick it". A few times I had to really bash it and Im afraid I might trigger the airbag...dont need that to happen at work seeing as how Im a nanny and the only one who would be able to dial 911.
A cop actually drive by the car, looked at me, and drove on. No stopping to see if someone tried to break in, did I need some help, etc. But that is beside the point.
Here is my theory, a real car person telling me if this is possible would be great. My cars horn is a giant full button on the wheel, not one of those little ones in some newer cars and also not like a dog squeeker toy with it firmly encased in the wheel. Its literally a leather button put over the regular wheel. I can look between the horn button slash airbag thingy and the rest of the wheel and see a little bit of metal, I assume where they are connected. I hope this makes sense. Anyway. Last night we had a huge rainstorm and I had my windows down. There was a ton of water on the wheel and everything else in the front seat when I went out this morning. Is it possible that rain got down between the 'button part' and the rest of the wheel, causing a bit of a short circuit? As I drove with the air on I assume it started to dry out and that was why it didnt start until I got to work. Knock wood, 40 min later it has stopped... I want to know if this could be the cause before I miss a day of work and am out god knows how much by taking it to the shop.
This is a picture of what my interior looks like, although its from another car. See how the entire center of the wheel is a horn button?
