Another thing that can wreck the lamps is the brass lugs (in the
connector)can be too loose. They get buggered up if you 'twist and
shout' while trying to remove the connector, rather than tightly
squeezing the two triangles (which release the grippers from the holes
in the lamp's lugs) and gently slipping the bulb free. Once the brass
lugs lose their grip, the current loss heats everything way too hot, and
lamp blows prematurely.

You can slip the whole connector apart and 'crush' the brass lugs
carefully to restore gripping power. Draw a diagram so you don't mix up
the wires.
