I have a 351W that I am considering building for a drag race Mustang. I
am probably going to go carb, but I am trying to decide whether or not
to do a stroker kit. Is that a good idea considering the application I
am using the engine for? Can anyone give me ideas on building a 351W
for drag race use?

I've just embarked on a 351C -> 393C build myself. Intended use? Drag racing
and street use. Hopefully I'll get to screw mine together in the next 4
weeks.

Stroke it. You won't regret doing it. You can run lower stall speed, highway
diff gears and still go stupidly fast. I've gone for a stroker that can rev
but left open the option to tame it down cam/stall and diff ratio wise later
if need be. You may need to do a slight grout fill to assist the block
strength wise. They call this a particial grout fill.

You can go upto 408ci safely in a W block.
