Post subject: Accord 88 LX 4dr. Carb. - How Do You Test the Electric Choke

Hi There,

My electric choke doesn't seem to be working. The choke plate stays mostly closed even when the engine is hot and the thermostat is open. I have 12 volts coming into the electric choke. I remove it and measured the resistance and I get around 350 Ohms.

I hooked it up directly to a 12 volt source but I didn't notice any movement in the bimetallic coil (I may not have left it hooked up long enough?). How do you determine if the electric choke is bad?

Thanks!
Webb

Hi There,

Well, I bought a new electric Choke Cap Set and measured the
resistance at about 9.8 Ohms which is considerably less than the
350 to 400 Ohms I measured on the old one. And it works!

Good Luck!
