I recently purchaced a 1987 Volkswagen Quantum... the car was in good
condition except had some mechanical problems... What I am running
into right now is the car will not rev past 3000 rpm and has no
power... it is also blowing black smoke out the back... when i got
the car i repaced the Pugs Wires Cap and Rotor, I also replaced the O2
sensor... and the problem still persists... I whould like to get this
car running for when i had it on the road it drove like a dream... any
help here whould be apriciated....

Thanks

Inability to rev and no power sounds like ignition timing is off.

did you change the air filter?
5cyl or 4cyl?

too much gas not enough air or combustion
check the timing belt also

Clarify Please . You say : I purchased a car in good condition, but had
mechanical problems. It has no power and wont rev past 300 rpm. Also :When
I got the car I replaced the wires , cap and rotor, but the problem still
persists. This means it never ran right from when you first got it. But
you also say when I had it on the road it ran like a dream. An you checked
the timing but had no book. Did it run worse after you changed the parts. it
also sounds like timing belt jumped or is way off. Maybe spark plug wires
reversed. Good luck.

good point on the plug wires...yeah check the firing order vs. how the wires
are hooked up. If it ran ok before the change but not after the change that
could be it.

I recently took the car to a shop and it apears that the problem is in
the fuel system... there is 88 PSI pressure at the distribution box...
(love to drive the german cars hate to work on them) but it is just
not getting to the injectors...
