735i 1989 E32 4HP22EH auto tranny won't upshift in 4th gear

Dunno this particular model, but some inhibit the overdrive top gear in
sports mode.

I allways keep it in E mode. Few days ago it reached red zone (6k rpm) in
3rd gear but didn't upshift into 4th.

The E32 box doesn't remember what you have just done (unlike the E38 5sp).

Try exercising the mode switch a few times (when stationary) and then
accelerate gently to ~120kmph
