'99 Chevy Silverado 2500 4x4 will not lock in.

4x4 is push-button, if that matters? 4x4 Indicator light does not show-up on
dash either.

Does anyone have experience with this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Not on a silverado, but on my Jimmy.

The 4x4 is engaged by a vacumn actuator connected via circuits to your
button.

After almost ten years, the wires may be corroded or the actuator may be
out, or the fuse may be shot.

I xposted to alt.autos.4x4.chevy-trucks.

I had a vacuum line crack on the back of the engine crack on my 94 S-10.
Initally it did not lock in. Since it was the middle of winter I decided
to wait till spring. A few weeks later the engine started rough. I check
the engine vacuum and found it was low and erratic. Fixed the cracked
line and then tried the four wheel drive and it worked.

Thanks Everyone!
My co-worker said that he removed the stitch connections and re-connected
them and everything is fine now. However, this could mean there is something
internally wrong with the sitch and may be a recurring issue. I hope not for
his sake!

Thanks again.

That should have read--"switch connection."
