450Sl Engine Conversion to USA

I want to convert my 4.5l German Engine to an American engine. I've seen a couple of web sites that say the have converted the 450SL engine. I want a vehicle that is dependable and has enough power to get out of its own wake. The conversions I've seen use the 450SL front end. My idea would be to use another cars frame. Like a Camaro or Nova and a 350 Chevy engine. I would also consider using a Mustang front frame assy. with a 5.0l engine. Or maybe the front frame assy. isn't the right way to go but it seems easier (i.e. Less Expensive) then modifying the MB parts. Less MB parts are better. I do like the MB rear independent suspension.
