Post subject: Peugeot 406 hdi GTX

Hi I’ve got a 2.2 HDI GTX 2002. I Ran out of fuel and the car did not self prime as it should so I primed through filter drain it ran for about 2 mile then cut out . This happened all the way home. The on board computer started showing a fuel additive problem and the engine management light came on. I took it to the dealer who plugged it in and advised a new HP pump was required at a cost of £1000. I asked them to check again and asked for the computer print out thinking that would give me some more info (as you can imagine ran out of fuel £1000 bill) they confirmed that this was the case and advised verbally it was not producing the correct pressure. So as I needed the car I went ahead. Got the car back with a strong smell of fuel had a look and found it was peeing out of the pump. Returned the car and was advised that it was a corroded hose . They replaces FOC. This got my wheels turning. After I had filled with fuel it would not go for long without needing bled. (BURST HOSE DRAWING AIR?) .I got the pump Rig tested by and independent (cost £118 +vat) Pump Failed but due to developing 0.2 L/H over spec. was advised that this should not be affecting the performance of the pump as its done around 140 thousand miles.
I want to go back to the dealer but I need to get more info or other opinions. I think I have paid £1000 and all it was, was a hose all along
PLEASE SOMEONE WITH THE KNOWLAGE HELP ME OUT. As I fear I will go to the dealer and get told the computer says NO. they don’t have mechanics anymore just fitters of technicians and what the computer says gos. I know if I go and get told this I’ll want to brake fluid the forecourt. Ant views or a cheap 45 gal drum of used b fluid going cheap?
