Archived from groups: alt>autos>toyota (more info?)

Hi Everyone,

I recently took my 4Runner SR5 (6Cyl) to the dealership for minor
maintenance package, which is apparently recommended at 12K miles. A day
after the maintenance was done, the 'Maint' light starts flashing but goes
away. Two days later, it is on and stays on.

Is there a reset somewhere that needs to be done? Do I need to take it back
to the dealership and pay who knows what just to turn that light off?

Any help will be geatly appreciated.

-joe

You can take it back to the dealer and have them reset the maintenance
reminder, which they should have done, or you can reset it yourself.

The procedure for resetting the maintenance reminder should be in your
owner's manual. If not, try this:
1) Turn ignition switch to "on" position
2) Set odometer/trip display to "odo" mode
3) Turn ignition switch to "off" position
4) Depress and hold the trip meter reset button
5) The service maintenance reminder light should
- illuminate solidly for 3 seconds
- blink for 2 seconds
- illuminate solidly for 1 second
- turn off
6) Release the trip meter reset button
7) Turn the ignition switch to the off position
Cool Turn the ignition switch to the on position and confirm that the service
maintenance reminder is off.

What causes the maintenance reminder light to turn on? Is it based simply
on accumulated miles or is there more to it than that?

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that it is simply accumulated miles.

Thank. I was just wondering because the maintenance reminder system that is
in both of my Hondas is not simply based on mileage.

There's a microchip built into the owner's manual. If the vehicle doesn't
get any signal at all indicating that the manual's been opened, the
maintenance light goes on.

He was giving a RTFM lecture, but because he is clueless on the correct way
to post, it only looks like he was lecturing you.

I understood him to be giving the lecture to the OP, but I can see how it
looks as if he was lecturing you.

He's wrong. Again.

One would think that a person that is wrong so often would try to not be so
rude.

What makes you both wrong and rude?
