I haven't had any problems with my WRX scoop, but some of the guys at
wrxnet, NASIOC, etc. have used chicken coop fence or window screen to
keep the larger bits of junk out. I've never seen anything commercial.

As for your wren problem, the easiest solution is to throw a towel over
the scoop when you park the car. Unless, of course, the wrens are
flying into the scoop while you're driving.

Gutter guard from home depot. We have done it on nasioc for years, works

I was annoyed pretty quick, with the lack of some kind of protection
for the intercooler. Even within the first few months, several of the
fins were crushed by bits of detritus I'd pulled into the scoop.

I opened the hood, pulled out the small plastic pins that hold the
rubber surround onto the inside of the hood (I dunno what this thing's
really called - airflow baffle, maybe?), and molded some screen door
mesh around the opening. I then replaced the rubber surround, stuffed
the pins through the mesh as I reinstalled them, and there you go. It
won't keep things from getting inside the scoop, but it will protect
the cooler - and I think the interference with air flow is pretty
minimal.

Sure surprised me when I found I could jam my hand in the scoop and
touch the cooler fins.

I expect they're argument would be that anything in the scoop would
interfere with airflow.

I wanted to get a bug deflector awhile back, but the dealer said I
really shouldn't put one on - same reason.

You would think the mfr would take care of such an obvious problem.
