Hello;

First, I have to thank you for all the questions you have answered
here, both mine and those of others. I'd at least get you a cup of
coffee for your efforts, but shipping something hot seems prohibitivly
expensive. Smile

Some time ago, I asked about removing a pcv valve on this car's 3.8L
engine, and your response was that if I saw one I'd know how to remove
it. I asked because I had seen one and still could not remove it.

After an absurd amount of work at removing it and thought about other
ways to try, I finally found a picture of a pcv valve in this engine
and it appears to me that the valve should sit proud of the valve
cover, rather than recessed into the valve cover, as mine is.

Was the valve supposed to sit proud? There is a groove in the rubber
surrounding the valve, and perhaps this is supposed to where the valve
seats in the valve cover? Was mine not correctly assembled at the
factory?

At this point, I'm about the get an upper gasket set and pull the
valve cover out - I HOPE there is an easier way.

Your style pcv valve is a pain to remove. The way it is in the valve cover
is correct. The rubber grommet on the valve has hardened which makes it more
difficult to remove. I have found that being patient with a pair of vise
grips and maybe another tool to allow leverage (like using a block of wood
underneath a hammer to remove a long nail).

I have tried using long pliars with a bent nose, but not vice grips
with that ... I'd be a bit afraid of ripping the valve apart and the I
may really have to remove the cover...
