Is there any adjustment to limit the travel of the wiper arms? I have
recently noticed that the wiper arms in my 2002 TL seem to travel a bit too
far. When the driver's arm has traveled as far as it can go, it gets pretty
close to the left edge of the windshield on the driver's side. When the
wiper arms cycle back to their starting position, the passenger side arm
periodically bangs against a flat spot on the underside of the hood, and the
driver's wiper will travel down onto the molding at the bottom of the
winshield. This does not seem right.

1) Grab both wipers and try to move them in opposite directions (one up,
the other down). Is there lots of slop, or do they appear to be solidly
connected together?

2) Grab the driver's wiper only and try to wiggle it up and down along
its sweep. Is it pretty solid, or is there lots of movement?

If there is lots of movement in test #1, then the link between the
wipers is worn out.

If there is lots of slop in test #2, then the link from the wiper motor
to the driver's wiper is worn out.

It's usually #2 that shows lots of slop. The nylon cup wears out at the
wiper motor ball. The cure is replacement of the entire link. You cannot
get the cup alone.
