| Coolant recovery tank is full of brown gunk but the level is OK. Car runs
warm in stop-and-go. 53K miles. I'd seen elsewhere in this group that the
sludge can be caused by stop leak pellets GM puts in the radiator; however,
the 3.1 seems to have a number of cooling issues. Any ideas? It will
probably have to go to a mechanic one way or the other but I'd like to know
what I'm up against beforehand. Thanks.

| Flushing the system beforehand sounds like a good idea, check that
hot water flows through heater core by * carefully * feeling both hoses
Modern cars have small radiators, low coolant, bad cap, things that
went unnoticed on older cars are issues today.

Mechanic flushed it and replaced with green. He conceded people have
opinions for and against dex-cool but he personally wants nothing to do
with it.
