2001 eclipse cluch not working

got a 2001 eclipse was driving when i tried to down shift i couldn't get it to there is no smell of burning,i cut off motor put in first gear how i drove home just stopped working

First things to check are
1. is the slave cyl (on the front side of the trans) leaking?
2. is there any fluid in the master cylinder? See #1.

MIGHT be the master, but the slave is the most common failure.
