I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla S. I recently installed a new stereo with
the help of a co-worker, and since then neither my dash lights nor my
tail lights have been working. My brake lights and hazard/turn lights
work just fine, but the rest just aren't on. Unless I'm turning or
braking, I'm pretty well invisible at night.

I bought the car used a year ago and it already had an after market
stereo. When we started taking it out we noticed that it was a pretty
half-assed job, with the wires just electrical taped together and
that's it.

Anyway, the car didn't come with a manual. I wasn't sure which fuses
handled that part of the car, so I checked them all and I didn't see
any that were blown. If I need to I'll go buy a manual, but if I can
get some help here I'd really appreciate it.

Remove your new stereo and match the wiring back together and test to see
if the issue is resolved. If so, make a note of the wiring.

Has the harness been clipped out? I don't know why people just don't go to
Wal-Mart* and get a wiring harness adapter. They're only $7.

If none of this works, visit your friendly neighborhood Toyota dealer and
ask them for a schematic for these connectors.

Try hachiroku's suggestions.

I believe that there are 2 fuse boxes for your car, one under the driver's
side of the dashboard and one in the engine compartment.

Make sure that the rheostat for the dash lights is not turned down all the
way.
