I have a 2001 Grand AM GT and it makes a terrible noise when slowing down
and applying brakes. It has been to 4 dealers and has had 3 sets of
brakes and a new set of tires (was told that was the problem). The
machine still makes noise so now I have been told I will have to "live"
with it as the type brakes cause this so turn my radio up! I refuse to
believe this noise cannot be stopped. It makes a "rubbing" sound not a
metal to metal. It is annoying and costing me money. Please - someone
help!

is it a high piched squeel or a grinding sound?

I have a 95 Grand Am with rear drum brakes. I had a bad squeak noise
when I started out and it slowly got quieter during my drive. I had
just replaced the front discs and so I went back to the dealer
thinking that the pads were defective. It turned out to be brake dust
in the rear drums. A LOT of dust accumulated over 10 years.
Cleaning it out made the squeak disappear. Just a thought. YMMV.
