Post subject: 2000 Taurus makes a chirpping noise

One day when it was raining i went through a puddle of rain with my 2000 Taurus and ever since that day the car has been makin like a chirppin noise and the mechanic doesn't know what it is! Can someone please help me? what could it be

The cam synchronizer needs replacing. I had the same problem with my 2002 Taurus SES.

Guys, I have a same car and exact same problem. Ford taurus 2002 se. One thing I can not understand is, the strange noise only comes out on rainny days. Yes, it is the cam sensor (synchronizer) that is going bad. A good dealership will hook the car up to the diagnostics and tell you this right away. I hope you still have the warranty or extended warranty on your car still...it would cost only $100 deductible. DO NOT go to a shop like Midas or CarX, they will say they have to take the engine apart to see what is wrong that is b/c they have no clue since they don't have the same diagnostics like the dealerships. Hey, it's me again.... I am pretty convinced that the noise was caused by the synchronizer.... However, these days, I found this chirpping noise is totally gone....what shall I do? Does the synchronizer performs properly these days? or it has been totally dead? Will the dead synchronizer cause the damages in other parts?? Do I need to have a FORD dealer have a detailed check with the sync? I am not sure if they will find the problem after the noise is gone.. In the past when I did have the problem, my car would stutter and not give my car gas to excelerate as I am driving down the road. If your car is performing fine and the noise is gone, then I don't think you would have any problems. Usually the synchronizer involves on how your car is performing.
