My car was giving me a hard time starting last summer, replaced the battery and problem solved. almost a year later it started doing it again, if I stepped on the gas when starting it was fine (did not give a hard start everytime, and not on a cold start usually). Then last month after starting my Passat I was backing out of garage, every light seemed to be flashing on the panel (especially emergency brake and a STOP across the screen). After a few seconds car stalled completely, would not start at all. Light on dashboard wouldn't even come on when key was turned. Mechanic was baffled. Had car towed said he messed around with the shifter and car started fine. Also said I had a low battery (kids apparently left back seat lights on). Charged battery (?) and sent me home saying if it happened again mess with shift and should start. Drove for a month no problems, and last week started doing it again, luckily it started after it stalled. Drove car home and did it again upon parking the car. Seemed to be idling a little low too.
My husband felt there was a voltage problem with the car, we found a vacuum hose with a pretty big crack. Don't know how the mechanic missed it or how long we had it! Replaced the hose, car is starting fine, but on 4th start since replacing hose, the car started normally but then had all panel lights go on again, a clicking sound coming from under shift, brake light flashing and then stalls. Worried it will do it while driving or that it might not start again. Will be taking it to a mechanic soon if I can't fix it myself. Car just hit 100,000 miles and has been driving well, as long as it starts fine. Anyone else ever had this happen? Any suggestions as to what I should check? Could it be a battery issue? Please, anything would be appreciated!
