I recently had the waterpump replaced (preventive maintenance). After new
pump was put on, I could drive the car for 8 0r 9 miles before it would
overheat. Took it back and shop said it had air in the lines. They bled
them, still overheated. Is now back in shop, they did test for head
gasket leak (negative). They installed additional bleeder valves in hoses
and cleaned radiator, and changed thermostat, it still overheats. Any
suggestions??? The car doesn't overheat when just idling. Thanks!

check your oil level, make you r using a 40 weight oil, while the car is running check upper radiator for pressure, also check your heater hoses inlet and outlet make sure there getting hot. Finally look for cracks in coolant resevoir. Also make sure your fans are cycling off and on.

I'll check those things out. I had someone else with the same problem on
their 98' say that the cooling fans were the problem on his car.

I got the car back and it drove for about 20 miles, then overheated again.
The shop had filed the neck where the radiator cap goes on. That seemed to
help for the short haul, but still overheats. They replaced the filed more
on the neck and put a new radiator cap on, but now the car overheats faster
than before.
