2000 Hyundai Elantra

I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. 98,000 miles. I only drive it locally, but recently let someone take it on the highway. They drove w/ OD off. Ever since, it revs really high, around 3000rpm, when I start it up. The transmition slips a lot, but only sometimes, though its becoming more frequent...
