My Windstar is not blowing heat when the heater fan is turned on, no matter
how long the engine is running. Antifreeze is generating heat and fan
blows, but no heat. One mechanic suspected a heater fan motor, another
mechanic suspects a heater fuse. Do you have a 99% opinion on this. Also,
is this an expensive repair ? Thanks so much for your feedback.

Well, if the heater fan still blows it is definately not the fan motor or the fuse.
The blend door actuator on the Windstar is a common failure and usually defaults to
full cold. Actually not the actuator, which turns the door to the hot or cold
position, but the shaft on the door itself tends to break. IIRC, the instrument panel
needs to be removed to access either. The actuator is mounted on top of the heater\AC
box and the blend door is inside the box. Fairly inexpensive parts, lots of labor to
have it done. 3-6 hours, the actuator being the lower, the door being the higher. It's
possible that the Windstar blend actuator is accessable without removing the IP, I
don't remember. On most Ford products it isn't, but there are exceptions..

Ummmm, I gotta agree with you in part..... but, during testing, you would
think that one of these geniuses would actually turn the heater on to see
what is happening....

At this point, I am almost ashamed of my chosen vocation.....

He didnt say WHERE he found that 'mechanic'... maybe he got the shop togs
at a costume store?!!!

Nor did he say he actually took the car to a shop. Perhaps it was a
'happy hour' consultation.
