Archived from groups: alt>autos (more info?)

Hello,
I am trying to buy a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee but the owner said the car has
a problem, the problem is noise in the engine and it will cost about
$1000.00 to fix it. Does noise in the motor of a cherokee means its dead?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Who can say until we know what the noise or supposed repair involves?
A good rule of thumb is not to buy a vehicle with such a known/unknown problem. If he's selling it for $1 then I'd change my mind.

'Noise' is a nasty word when it comes to engines and $1000.00 is a wild
assed guess.

If it was only that easy, he would have fixed it because a Jeep with a
dead engine is scrap metal. Realistically knock $4000.00 at the least
off the asking price to cover for a replacement engine.

This is excessive, It has a used motor in it now and like used replacement would cost no where near 4 grand.
