Sounds like a normally functioning transmission to me.. If you are accelerating hard then it will get up to 3-4,000rpm's before shifting into 3rd. The whole purpose behind the torque converter is to allow the vehicle to stop, yet NOT kill the engine.. So basically you should see about 750rpms ..

I have a 1997 Taurus with manual climate controls. The temperature blend door actuator, behind the ash tray, is making a thumping, clicking sound. The dealer says it will take $600 to replace the blend door actuator. Is there a way to disable the blend door actuator? Can I remove the power to it..
