Post subject: 1997 Buick LeSabre Limited - electrical issues (ac, radio, blinker)

Hello all.

I have a 1997 LeSabre with about 174,000 miles on it. I have owned
this car for about 6 years (95,000 miles).

Recently I put a new after market cd player in the car.

My friend and I installed it without a problem. However, we left a
cable plugged in the back of it that was no longer needed.

Yesterday I took the new cd player out, took out the wire (black + red
audio one for AUX usage), and began to put the cd player back into the
holding apparatus.

As I did this, the power cut out of the cd player and I thought I
smooshed a wire in the harness. After going back and forth trying to
get it to work, my AC, and radio completely died.

Freaking out, I plugged in my old radio (the sock one) and sure
enough, it did not want to power up.

I looked at the wires, and everything was in tact. I looked at my
fuses (both the ones under the steering wheel and the ones under the
hood) and they are all good.

Right now my left blinker does not turn on, my ac does not blow, and
my radio gets no power.

The AC compressor works and is constantly engaged when the car is on,
despite the ac buttons not working.

On the AC display the C/F is shown signaling that the controls get
power. On the passenger side the Warm and Cool buttons are highlighted
and the little measure bar is fully highlighted.

Did I short circuit something? Is my car going to be able to be fixed?
What could be the root of all the problems? Should I replace all of my
fuses and see whats up? Could it be that the car is locked by some
anti theft mechanism?

Thanks a bunch on any advice!

You are missing something looking at the fuses, check again, closely.

Hi...

Not a mechanic; just an old long retired electrical guy, so take this
for whatever little it may be worth.

Check each again, not visually - with a meter or by substitution.

Check all fuses, not only the ones that the logo indicates may be
responsible.

Take care.

So its definitely a fusebox issue?

How can that be? I looked at all of the fuses to make sure that they
are intact.

Could it be anything else?

If I remember right there is another fuse box (power distribution
center) on the right inside wall. Really open the glove compartment
door and you might be able to see it.

Looking at the book, fuse
1 = door lock
2 = trunk release
3 = horn
5 = EGR
6= fuel pump
7 = injector
8 = the instrument cluster, Mass Air Flow Sensor and Powertrain
control module.
11 = A/C feedback fuse

I haven't looked into that yet. thanks for pointing it out. I'll see
what I can do once I come back from my job assignment.

If your blinkers sound really loud, crawl under the dash with the blinkers
flashing, and find the flasher unit. Move it so that it is not resting
against metal. It will be nice and quiet after that.
